COVID-19 Update

On March 13, 2020, the following email was sent to all members of our school community:

Dear International School Parents and Guardians,

The situation surrounding the outbreak of COVID-19 is rapidly evolving, and the information and recommendations are changing as new information becomes available.  The School is in regular communication with the Minnesota Department of Health and the Department of Education about the situation.  We will continue to collaborate with these agencies to support the health and safety of our students and staff, and we work to minimize any impact it has on our learning community.

While we have no cases of COVID-19 at The International School of Minnesota, out of an abundance of caution and due to the heightened travel activity of our community during Spring Break, we have decided to extend students’ time off campus for two additional weeks (March 16-27, 2020).  This step is purely a precautionary one designed to reduce everyone’s potential exposure to the virus.

International School students are not to return to campus from March 16 through March 27, 2020. All after-school activities and events during this time have been postponed until further notice.  This includes the school’s annual International Day. Learning, however, will continue, with ISM teachers uploading material to the SABIS® Digital Platform for students to cover and assignments to do in each of the two weeks.

In order to facilitate the learning process:

  • All students are asked to come to the school on Tuesday, March 17, between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM to pick up their books and materials. Access to and from the school will be limited to the main entrance, and the number of students allowed access at a time will be monitored.   Students will be walked to their locker to get their things, and then the student will be escorted out. The School will be fully sanitized prior to and following Tuesday, March 17.
  • By 5:00 PM Tuesday, March 17: Teachers will upload materials for the students to work on during the remainder of the week (March 18 -20).
  • By 5:00 PM Friday, March 20: Teachers will upload materials for students to work on during the following week (March 23 -27).
  • March 30: Formal instruction will resume. Whether that will be on campus or via digital instruction online will depend on the situation at that time. If we decide to conduct instruction online, we will provide you with further details.

As usual, in your daily life, please follow the guidelines provided in earlier communication and from the CDC regarding the best practices for preventing the spread of the virus.  Additionally, please submit a Travel Declaration Form to us outlining any travel you or individuals in your household plan to do outside of Minnesota.

We will be updating you as more information becomes available.  If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me at  You are also welcome to contact your child’s AQC:  Paula, Patrick Farmer, or Sarah Bianucci

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Best Regards,

Nadia Reda
