From ISM to Northeastern: Siena Becchetti’s Global Journey Begins
For Siena Becchetti, a proud alumna of The International School of Minnesota (ISM) Class of 2024, the past year has been a whirlwind of growth, discovery, and adventure. Now a rising sophomore at Northeastern University in Boston, Siena reflects on her first year of college with gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead.
“It went by so fast,” she said, smiling. “But it was filled with so many incredible memories, friendships, and lessons that I’ll carry with me forever.”
A Global Foundation
Siena’s academic journey began at ISM in preschool, and she stayed through Grade 12—fully immersed in the school’s global, rigorous, and community-driven environment. She credits ISM not only with preparing her academically but also with giving her the confidence and adaptability to thrive far beyond the classroom.
“My classes at Northeastern are intense,” Siena explained, “But ISM’s challenging academic program gave me the foundation I needed. I didn’t just learn how to study—I learned how to manage my time, advocate for myself, and stay organized, which has made a huge difference.”
Her time at ISM was shaped by a wide variety of experiences, from performing in musicals and show choir to taking on leadership roles in the Student Life Organization® (SLO®), where she served as Deputy Head for two years. These opportunities, she says, shaped her into a well-rounded, resilient, and engaged student.
Embracing the World
Siena is now pursuing a major in international business at Northeastern, with a double concentration in marketing and accounting & advisory services. Her passion for global learning—nurtured during her years at ISM—led her to enroll in Northeastern’s renowned N.U.in Program, which offers first-year students the chance to study abroad.
“College is already overwhelming,” Siena admitted, "But starting out in a completely different country added a whole new layer. Still, I loved every second of it. Coming from an international school, I always knew I wanted to study abroad—and I’m so glad I did.”
Her first semester took her to Italy, where she bonded with a cohort of like-minded students and created lifelong friendships. When the group reunited on Northeastern’s Boston campus in the spring, those connections only deepened.
Hitting the Ground Running
Once back in Boston, Siena wasted no time immersing herself in campus life. She joined Distilled Harmony, an a cappella group, and became co-brand manager on the Executive Board—continuing the spirit of involvement she embraced at ISM.
Academically, she leveraged the AP credits she earned at ISM to jump straight into major-specific courses. “Being able to skip general requirements and start on business coursework was a huge advantage,” she said. “It helped me feel more engaged and excited from the beginning.”
She also made it a priority to build strong relationships with her professors and seek out support when needed—something she says ISM taught her well. “You learn to speak up, to ask questions, to take initiative. That’s been so important in college.”
Looking Ahead
After a summer back home in Minnesota, Siena is energized and ready for her second year at Northeastern. She’s looking forward to exploring more of Boston, joining new clubs, engaging with community organizations, and continuing to grow as both a student and a leader.
