International Day 2026 Brings the World to ISM
The International School of Minnesota (ISM) will host its annual International Day on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., welcoming families, friends, and the broader community for a vibrant celebration of culture, connection, and global learning.
Free and open to the public, International Day offers an engaging afternoon of cultural performances, interactive experiences, and international cuisine. The event reflects the diversity that defines the ISM community and provides guests of all ages with an opportunity to explore traditions from around the world in one place.
“As an international school, celebrating cultures from around the world is at the heart of who we are,” said Sarah Bianucci, ISM staff member and International Day organizer. “International Day brings our community together to learn from one another and celebrate what makes each culture unique.”
A Day of Cultural Discovery
This year’s event invites guests to “Become a World Explorer,” with featured cultures including Colombia, Cambodia, Egypt, France, and the United States. Classrooms throughout the campus will be transformed into immersive cultural spaces where visitors can engage with traditions, art, music, and history through hands-on activities led by students and staff.
Walking through the school during International Day offers a journey across continents, as each space presents a new opportunity for discovery and cultural exchange.
Event Highlights
The day begins with the Parade of Nations, where students and families proudly represent their heritage by carrying national flags and wearing traditional attire—an opening moment that captures the spirit and diversity of the ISM community.
Following the parade, guests can enjoy a lively showcase of international music and dance performances. Throughout the afternoon, Global Discovery Rooms and interactive experiences across campus invite visitors to explore cultures in meaningful and engaging ways.
The International Café, open from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., offers a variety of globally inspired dishes, giving guests the chance to sample flavors from around the world.
Cultural Performances
A diverse lineup of performers will kick off the day featuring artistic traditions from across the globe. You won’t want to miss these performances including Egyptian dance by Jawaahir, Colombian dance by Colombia Live MN, French music by the French Cabaret Orchestra, and Hawaiian hula by Leilani Rose & Lovely Lily.
A Global Culinary Experience
The International Café will feature a menu inspired by global cuisines, including Beef Bourguignon from France, Mahi Mahi fish tacos from the United States, falafel from Egypt, and Colombian favorites such as chicken chuzo and cachapas.
“The food is always a favorite part of the day,” Bianucci said. “It’s a unique opportunity to experience authentic dishes from different cultures without leaving Minnesota.”
Interactive Experiences
In addition to cultural showcases, guests can participate in hands-on activities designed for all ages. Experiences include operating robots with the ISM Robotics Team, exploring virtual reality journeys to different countries, visiting a themed photo booth, and trying a teleprompter in a working broadcast studio.
Celebrating a Global Community
Founded in 1985, ISM brings together students and families from around the world, fostering a learning environment rooted in cultural understanding and global citizenship. International Day reflects that mission by creating space for the community to share traditions, build connections, and celebrate diversity.
Events like International Day highlight how students not only learn about different cultures, but also develop a deep appreciation and respect for them—an essential part of preparing globally minded citizens.
